My Conversation with Alyson Stanfield

My Conversation with Alyson Stanfield

I had the utmost pleasure talking with Alyson Stanfield at the Art Biz Podcast! I thoroughly enjoyed our conversation about motherhood, community, and pricing my artwork for sustainability in my small business.

If you're a fellow mother or parent, especially one taking care of their child full time AND working on top of that, I hope that you can connect with my experiences and feel like you are not alone in these struggles. Even as I type this I'm hoping to get this post finished and published before my child wakes up from her nap 😂

We discussed the community of artists who have supported me so much at Nicholson File Artists Studios.

I also talk about pricing, which always seems to be the hardest thing for artists. I talk about how my pricing factors in not just all the work that makes one piece, but also materials and overhead. If your prices can't cover these you'll be left burnt out and won't be able to sustain your business. I know from experience! In 2021 I was left burnt out and depleted from every batch of pots, and my well of inspiration ran dry. I did some math (with help from my friend Megan Auman) and calculated how much it actually takes to make my work. I feel so much more creative freedom and my art supports my family, which is something I'm incredibly proud of.

You can listen to this episode of the Art Biz Podcast on Alyson's website or wherever you get your podcast!

I'd love to hear from you if you loved this episode, have questions, or you want to connect about parenthood ❤️
